CHIP

The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) is a joint federal-state program established to provide coverage to uninsured children in families whose incomes are too high to qualify for Medicaid. In fiscal year (FY) 2023, 8.9 million children received CHIP-funded coverage. Spending in states and territories for FY 2023 totaled $22.3 billion ($17.3 billion federal, $6 billion state). As part of MACPAC’s work on CYSHCN, staff examined their transitions from child to adult Medicaid eligibility.
